What is a Personal Fitness Trainer?

A personal fitness trainer is a skilled teacher, motivator, communicator, and continual student of fitness and of positive lifestyle change. Most personal trainers can be described by what they do such as teaching safe, effective, individualized exercises to clients, in a one-on-one setting. They assist clients in achieving their personal fitness and wellness goals.

A personal trainer's responsibility is to put the client's safety first. Fitness trainers are responsible for screening clients by evaluating their medical and fitness condition. Clients must also realize their own responsibility in disclosing information because overlooking or failing to disclose a medical or physical condition just to start a session can put them at risk for injury. Therefore, all medical and physical conditions should be disclosed.

Personal trainers should develop individualized exercise programs tailored to each client to help attain their fitness goals. Fitness is not one size fits all. Only safe and effective exercises should be used. There is no place for showing off at the gym through the performance of unsound exercises. A fitness trainer should get to know each client's physical strengths and weaknesses and should communicate to clients that reaching fitness goals is a gradual process and cannot be achieved overnight. A trainer should be able to answer questions about exercise, calorie expenditure, healthy eating, weight loss, injuries and any other question related to the clients fitness program. Total fitness consists of more than just running on a treadmill and weight lifting - it also requires the development of a healthy lifestyle.

Personal trainers should make clients aware that the client alone is responsible for their own health. The trainer's duty is to enhance the client's feelings of self-efficacy, by helping them feel that they are capable of achieving personal fitness and the subsequent improvement in their physical appearance. Everyone deserves to look as good as the next person. Trainers should encourage their clients to practice a healthy lifestyle and it should be understood that is a lifetime commitment. A trainer should make the client aware that he or she will not be there around the clock to supervise fitness behavior. The client must take responsibility for his or her own fitness behavior, otherwise fitness goals will not be achieved. It must be understood that practicing a healthy lifestyle is not just a Monday and Tuesday chore, but is an everyday task. It should also be understood that everyone has bad days or slips a little here and there, but those days should be the exception to the rule.

A Personal fitness trainer should continue to stay up to date on new research and medical findings. They should keep their certifications current through continuing education, subscribing to fitness magazines and periodicals, and attending seminars. A great deal of misinformation and folklore is still promoted as fact by some media and individuals. A qualified personal trainer should have the knowledge and the ability to think objectively and separate fact from fiction

A personal trainer is human just like everyone else. Clients should not expect a personal trainer to be a miracle worker. Personal training is a relatively new and still emerging profession and is as hard as any other job. Dealing with people on an individual basis sometimes requires a great deal of patience and flexibility. Sometimes clients expect overnight results but in reality, it takes time to achieve fitness goals. Clients should give their trainer the chance to get to know them. After all is said and done clients must also give themselves time to get to know their own capabilities in order to achieve their fitness goals. Finally, a good qualified personal trainer is not someone who has numerous or the best certifications in the industry, nor is it the individual who charges the highest fee. A good qualified personal trainer is actually someone who is experienced and effective, with a good personality, and with whom the client works well. These qualities are among the best certifications of all. personal trainers new york, greek personal trainer, personal training,New york fitness, personal trainer NYC, NYC personal trainers
